OUR MONTESSORI PROGRAM

The present day demand of Montessori Education is driven by the children themselves in response to their inner directive.  Invariably, children of all races, socio-cultural and economic backgrounds have found an irresistible appeal in the use of Montessori materials and continue to do so after nearly a century.

A common misconception holds that the materials to be teaching aids, tools that will help teachers convey those matters which adults believe children must learn. Their function is, however, of far greater scope.

Adults can teach children a limited amount of facts. The knowledge children can acquire if they are free to follow their inner dictates is unlimited. The Montessori Educational approach is self-directed in that it provides the children with motives for purposeful activity, perfectly adapted to each stage of their development.

At MY KINDY LABRADOR we aim to assist the children in the application of the Montessori Method of learning. We will also focus our programming on the key learning areas as developed by Dr Montessori.

The key learning areas of our program will focus on the following areas:

  • Practical Life
  • Sensorial
  • Language
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Botany
  • Geography
  • Zoology
  • The Arts (Music/Drama/Dance/Visual Art/Media)
  • Imaginative free social play period

Our daily routine for Our Montessori Program work periods will be from 9:30 am until 3:00pm. Times before 9.30am and after 3pm will consist primarily of free social play and interactions with other attendees in a mixed age group.
Practical Life: This learning area will focus on care of the environment, care of the person, grace and courtesy and movement.

Sensorial: Sensorial materials lay the foundations for Math, Geometry, Botany, Art and Music. Being wide in scope they invite the children to explore all the possibilities they have to offer.

Language: The use of written visible signs for children to explore our language. Letter shapes, sounds, the printed language.

Mathematics:  The printed numbers, concepts of numbers and places, addition, counting and order of numbers.

Biology, Botany, Zoology: In the first 3 years of life children build impressions of the elements of the world around them. Among these are plants, trees, shrubs and a variety of growing things as well as animals, their names, place in the environment and groupings.

Geography: The child in coming to terms with his universe is interested in the world around him. Focus on land masses ie: continents and bodies of water ie oceans and the names of such.

Art/Music/Drama and Dance: An appreciation for the arts will be introduced to children. Painting, drawing, clay modeling, instruments and their sounds as well as body and movement through drama and dance.
